Ervin is the independent candidate in the race for governor, who is also a former judge and state representative. He opted to drop out of the June Republican primary and wage an independent candidacy against Haley.
In the letter he posted on his Facebook account, Ervin said “another child has needlessly died under your watch.” Ervin was referring to the death of a 5-month-old, who died April 22, while DSS was trying to find him.
“These systematic failures of your cabinet appointee continue to undermine public confidence in your ability to lead,” wrote Ervin in his post. “Elected officials from both parties have asked you repeatedly to take action. Your failure to act continues to put our most vulnerable children at great risk of bodily harm and, in some tragic cases, death.”

Ervin isn’t the only gubernatorial candidate calling for Haley to fire Koller. On Tuesday, Sen. Vincent Sheheen, D-Camden, called for the same.
A request for comment from Haley’s campaign was not immediately returned.
